Bad tranny mount?
Bad tranny mount?
Whenever I hit the gas relatively hard on my 88, I hear this big bang and it sounds horrible. It doesn't do it off normal acceleration, only off the line with medium to hard acceleration. Do you think it's the tranny mount?
Yeah, it's probably your trans mount. It's easy to change, and the mounts are cheap. Basically you have two choices, the stock rubber mount or a poly like the prothane one I just installed. Go ahead and read my post halfway down this page to read my "review" of the prothane mount.

Simple test- crawl under your car. Find the tailshaft of the transmission (right before the driveshaft). Try to bench-press the transmission up towards the floorboards. If you can budge it at all, the trans mount is demolished. (The trans will tilt very easily if this is so; everything will hinge on the motor mounts.)
And definately go poly. I went thru 3 trans mounts in 2 years. I bought the Energy Suspension mount, and haven't had to replace it since- that was back in '97. 3 stock trans mounts, at 7 bux each, were more then the ES mount.
