can i convert my rear drum brakes into disc brakes without changing the rear end?

I have a 91 Z28 305 automatic LB9 and the rear brakes are drums. Compared to my other Camaro which is of the same year and same specs but with all brakes with the disc setup, the car in question does not brake as well. Are there kits to make the conversion without changing the rear end and if so which are the most recommended?. ALso instead of getting a normal disc brake setup I would like to get all heavy duty brakes for all four wheels. Which ones would you recommned?. If it is not at all possible to change the rear end brakes, would there be any problems in driveability getting heavy duty brakes for the front tires only leaving the drums in the back?.

yes you can.. but it is not neccesarily cheap..

I converted mine with a kit from Baer brakes.. the cost is like 750.00 and required you to pull the axles and have the flanges machined down to 5.9 inches to clear the hats off the new rotors.. you also will be given a schematic to mod the proportioning vavle and an adjustable proportioning valve to splice into the rear brake lines..

When I did the rears I also changed to the baer system on the fronts.. that was an additional 11-1200..

If you want to swap on stock type rear discs, all you have to do is pull the axles and change the backing plates/dust shiels and e-brake cables.
Everything should bolt up.
You'll also want to use a 4 wheel disc master cylinder and prop valve.

Brakes...

Theres a ton of options out there for brakes...it all depends on your wants and you checkbook There are many threads going around currently for front brake self modified and installed upgrades : C5 (current corvettes), 1LE (89?-92 3rd gens and opted earlier cars), C4 (older model covette), LS1 (98-02 4th gens), etc. that you can do a search on to find out which would suit you best. IIRC, the C4's are the only ones that work with 15"" wheels and the C5's require 17's. Theres also Baer and Willwood kits for $$$$. As for the rear...check out this tech article https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/t...reardisc.shtml for putting LS1 98-02 rear brakes on your axles... you can do basically the same mod for 1LE/PBR brakes from any 89?-97 camaro with discs. Check the following thread and anything posted by ebmiller88 or 89 Iroc Z.. https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=183169 theyve done almost every swap on their cars, except the C5, they posts on brake set ups a lot and I think eds still selling a custom made C4 kit for fronts. Good luck, Efrain.

I'm on the verge of taking a trip to my in-laws--I typically do some boneyarding. While I couldn't bring back an entire rear end, if I should stumble on 89-92 car with rear discs, I can, apparently, take the discs, backing plate, calipers, and hardlines and be in good shape (to swap into my J65 IROC)?
