What are the BEST brakes I could build buy or fabricate to fit underneath my crosslace 16" rims.

I know the spoon 13" setup wont work.
The LS1 setup might work with spacers
the C4 setup works
wilwood sells their 4 piston setup
baer prolly sells a system.

WHICH IS THE BEST?

 

I really like, and going to keep my cross lace rims. I think the C4 set up is the best bang for the buck, but I'm unsure if the longer studs would prevent me for using the factory lugs and plastic caps, so thats kind of out.

I think Im going the 1LE route, I know it will fit the GTA wheels lugs and caps, and provide stopping power compariable to all, IMHO

 

I have driven a firebird with the 1LE 4 disk setup and was not impressed.

I noticed somewhat beter feel but the braking power was not significantly improved over my disk drum setup (could barely lock up the tires).

I've been faced with this dilemma as well......

As far as I'm concerned the stock brakes have to go. The thing I like about the C4 set-up is the availability and price of spare parts.

Though I believe the C4 brakes haven't yet been tried under a GTA wheel. There was a thread involving Eb Miller the other day about this.

You can always cut a quarter inch or so off the studs before you install them and get rid of the possible interference problem. Studs are fairly cheap...

This pic is of my rear wheel using the doorman/motormite studs. If these studs are used on the stock front rotors, then you may have an issue with the caps not fitting. The rear rotors/drums push the wheels out like spacers, so if you do the C4 upgrade then there shouldn't be a problem.

What does this mean? Is it part numbers for the studs?

 

I am still waiting to see if someone can fit the LS1's under these rims.

I think the LS1's would be the best brakes of all the current options IF they fit.

 

Yeah, those are the part numbers. I found mine at a Napa dealer. I forget what brand they carry (they don't have both) so just give them the corresponding part number.

 

Napa=Motormite. They're $1.80 each in Charlotte, but the number you listed isn't right. It's 6411581.

Sorry to disagree with you Ed, but I checked the motormite website and both of my part numbers returned valid wheel studs. Your numbers were invalid.

You are right and we may be both right...the number I posted is the Napa crossreference number. The MM part number posted won't work at my local Napa in their system.

I guess this is another case of 'internet' information being incorrect/misleading/wrong!

 

I know for a fact that the Baer 12" system will fit inside the crosslace rims because that's what I'm currently running on my car. At least for now until my 409's get in sometime next week. They only have about an 1/8" clearance between the calipers and the rim, but they do fit.

 

... 1LE with the right pad for the application it's being used for and they are just fine. 12" rotors front and rear.

 

... and since it's not a street car anymore, I don't need the plastic caps anyway.
