Spacers and Blacking Plate

Mike M's 82-91 Camaro CD shows shims behind the PBR backing plate. Does the LT1 / LS1 brake set-up have these as well? I'm on the verge of purchasing a complete 93-97 rear end in order to swap the brake components to my 85 J65 with 1LE fronts. Will the shims be a problem?

I've heard about the shims before from AndyZ28 but I haven't seen them up close myself. Can you shoot me just that pic to my e-mail?

Also, not to flame, but why get an entire rear just for the brakes? If you were closer, I'd take the rear off your hands. If you JUST want the brakes, go to these guys. All you'd need are the correct backing plates, which are easy to get:

Ed,

I'd be happy to send you the pic, but I'm unsure of how to do that from the CD. Essentially the shims--which appear to be the same size as the axel flange and are drilled to fit the four mounting holes--go between the axel flange and the backing plate. Four are listed: .81, 1.57. 2.33, and 3.09. Andy told me recently that he was still selling at least two of these and was going to send me a detailed list of any miscellaneous parts he still had, but becuase of the holidays, I'm yet to hear from him. The link you provide does look inviting. I guess I was interested in the entire rear (aside from the fact that I'm a bit **** about these things) because I would be assured of gathering all bolts, nuts, line brackets, and so on. Humm, still, something to consider. Thanks, Ed.

I just e-mailed TAcreations.

Heres what im doin i got a complete rear lt1 pbr kit off ebay. Then i got some 9 bolt pbr backing plates off ebmiller but i dont think the 9 bolt will need the shims. At least i hope not if so ill have to make some. They r so the caliper mounting bracket centers with the rotor and nothing rubs.

Yep, what Spdfrk said. You shouldn't "need" the shims as it should fit up OK, but not everything goes right all the time. I need to hear from Andy myself...

I'd fit it up first and them see if you'll need them. The calipers will float around a bit and should take up the slack.
