Differences in Spindles
Differences in Spindles
Ive read through all the posts on LS1 brakes and have a question on which spindle is needed. I understand there is a "late" and and "early" style spindle. I took some pics and need to see if I have late, early, or one of each style. Also if it helps I have Ed's brackets on the way. I believe he stated that the late spindles worked best with his brackets but like I said I have no way of knowing which is which. Anywho here are the pics....

According to your sig you have a 91. If you still have your original spindles on the car, they should be the "late" style spindles. They changed them sometime in 90, so all 91's should have the newer style on them. I did the 1LE conversion on my car, which is an 89, and I grabbed a set of spindles off a 91 to use. The only difference between the two styles is they casted a little extra "meat" around the dust shield holes on the newer ones. Sometimes it's hard to tell by pictures. It's easier to tell if you're looking at them in person. The dust shield holes on the newer ones have a rounder looking boss than the old ones. The old ones look kinda thin on one side of the dust shield mounting boss. People say you can use either style for the 1LE conversion, but I went with the newer ones for a little extra insurance.

I used the old style on my 1LE conversion without problems.

Are those pictured from the same car? The second pic is dark, I can't really tell. I'm sure the first one is an "early" style, I don't see the raised bosses I'm used to seeing. But dont' be worried, both styles WILL work, it's just that I prefer the "late" style.
