How to separate pitman arm/center link

I'm changing my steering components to freshen up the steering feel. How do I separate the Pitman arm from the center link?
Can I use my pickle fork or is there some specialty tool that will make the job easier?

Use a pitman arm puller. I like it better than a pickle fork.

Hi Chuck. Here's what I do: Back the stud nut off until it's even with the top of the stud. Then get a 3lb. or so "mechanical agitation device", adn give it a good, sharp blow right on the top of the nut. Usually breaks right apart, no problems. Plus, if you're installing new stuff, you won't worry about damaging any threads. Here's a link to my pic:

I appreciate the advice guys. The local auto parts store where I buy most of my parts loans specialty tools for free and has a pitman arm puller. I'm going to borrow it. I did belt the stud on the center link a few times with my "BFH" but it didn't come loose. I did not really want to beat on it too hard since I'm seperating the center link from the pitman arm on the steering box. I'm concerned about the hammer blows being transferred to the steering box.

Thanks for the typical good advice.

PS: Still waiting for some nice weather to try out the LS1 brakes.
