Need suspension suggestion for 84 Trans Am.
Need suspension suggestion for 84 Trans Am.
I ran a search on "shot suspensions" on the forum. I read all I found useful for about an hour and one post in particular had a list of parts that might be what I need.
My 84 Trans Am is my daily driver and bottoms out over anything. I want my ride to feel smooth and yet be firm. I will be running about 410 horse with a bit more torque after I toss my 305 and put in a 350 I am looking at. So this suspension has to be able to handle that power.
My budget for the entire suspension is low, but I don't want to "half-***" it. If I could get everything I need for less than 900 smackers that would be great. This is the list the other post had:
Steering linkage (all parts are Moog):
balljoints
center link
tie rod adjusting sleeve
outer tie rod end
inner tie rod end
idler arm
Shocks/Springs:
KYB GR-2 front struts
KYB gas-a-just rear shocks
KYB Right upper strut mount w/bearing
KYB Left upper strut mount w/bearing
Suspension Techniques V6 lowering springs, #60115 shox.com
Polyurethane Bushings (all Energy Suspension):
front control arm set
rear control arm set
track bar (panhard rod) set
Does anyone agree with this setup? Please take in mind what I need it for...a 400hp daily driver that will not be seeing the track and will not be running sticky tires. Occassional streetlight burnouts at most. Anything on that list that is not needed for my setup or if anyone can give me a better setup, please post what is a must. This is what I had put together after reading only a few posts:
kyb gr2's for struts and gas-adjust shocks for the rear.
SFC's Sub Frame Connectors
Strut Tower Bar (STB) or a Wonderbar
Bushings
eibach pro-kit
Thank you for reading through all of this and hope to get many responces.
PS. Is there a big difference that will affect my ride between the GR2's and the AGX's from KYB?

Your list looks pretty good. Just replacing the your springs and shocks should stop your car from bottoming out. The stuff you have now is old and worn out and new stuff will make your car come alive. After that I would recomend a whole bushing kit to replace the old worn out stock pieces. However, you will be replacing these bushings indirectly if you go with aftermarket LCA's, Torque arm, panhard rod, sway bars. I would start with the shocks and springs and go from there.
