Whats Involved in a FRONT 1LE upgrade???
i have a 1991 z with the rear drum.........i just want a little bigger brakes up front til i can afford a new rear end set up for disc. what all will i have to buy/do to the front to get a 1le setup. can i just slap the 1le calipers on or do i need to buy new rotors too......??? i did a search and didnt find any exact answers.
thanks
thanks
I suggest that you do a search. There is tons of info and complete instructions for the swap. I would also suggest that you go to TDS's website(a link at the top of the page) and buy the CD that they sell. It has tons of info about this swap with detailed pics.

To answer your question, you'll need new rotors, calipers and carriers, carrier to spindle brackets, modded spindles, maybe new master cylinder and prop valve. It's all covered in Andy's CD. I did my 1LE upgrade over a year ago and I'm happy with them, although now there's numerous upgrades out there for less money. If you want an all in one 1LE kit, Steve Spohn sells it, with all or some of the parts available.
The C4 upgrade is the closest thing to 1LEs out there, but they run a thinner rotor. I also have the C4s on my RS and they also work great, I'm very happy with them. Do some searching on "brake upgrade" and you'll find a TON of info out there.

IMO, Baer is just a name. Their discs are made by DBA Austrailia and their calipers are made by PBR anyway, so C4, C5, and LS1 upgrades are all the same since they're also PBR calipers. I'd save your money and look elsewhere. Baer charges a $150 core just for the spindles. There's better options out there.
