Is the brake booster rebuildable?

And if it is, is the kit easily available? My BB is hissing pretty badly, though braking doesn't seem to be bothered too much - probably because of the Baer system up front and the LS1's out back though. I figgered if I can rebuild it, that means I can powdercoat it since it's apart anyway...

Anyone have any thoughts?

Steve

well, it's basically a vacuum diaphragm..

I don't think you yourself can rebuild it, although you can buy new ones ($$$)..

Yeah Ive never seen a rebuild kit...Is it the booster itself leaking or the lastic barb in it that connects to the manifold...You can buy new barbs for it...

If a new one is too much $$$ find someone with a good used one... I know someone who just switched his GTA to manual brakes and has a power brake booster sitting in his garage...

END of sales pitch..

No worth the time and effort, IMHO. All the major aftermarket MFG's make New and Rebuilt boosters. Bendix, Raybestos, Wagner etc. Check your local aftermarket parts supplier.

Also, do check the one way valve and the grommet. Might be only be a $2 grommet.

If diaphram is hooped, I wouldn't bother. Boosters are very hard to get apart...and they have a freakin' HUGE spring inside that is extremely hard to compress.

And from what I hear that spring can be pretty dangerous...
