RECALL INFORMATION (Brakes)

i need some information on a recall put out by the TSB back in 1994 i believe it was. it was for later model 3rd gens about the brakes dragging or vibrating. i called a chevy and pontiac dealership about it and they both couldn't tell me anything. they said it was was probably too old and no longer an open recall. My brakes are still dragging when i drive and sometimes lock up when i first start my car or when i'm moving at slower speeds and go to make a sharp turn (such as a k turn). i've replaced my calipers and my brake hoses and it still does it. i called my mechanic about it, and he said he didn't know what it could be because i did everything he would have checked. he told me it's probably the master cylinder, which i don't want to replace if i don't have to. my friend said to check the proportioning valve, because his went in his 86 camaro and my other friends 86 firebird. eitherway, if anyone has any information on that recall i'd really like to know what they replaced when it was fixed. if it is the master or proport. vavle, should i just go to a junkyard and grab one, because they're 250 + tax and 100 + tax new from gm, and i don't think either breaks that easily. thanks in advance

The only recall that I know of involved cars equipped with four wheel disc brakes (the iron calipers) and stick shift transmissions, which I notice your car has. If you are talking about the same recall, and IIRC, it had to do with the rear brakes not working. The front brakes did all the work.

AFAIK, the dealer should still be able to determine if the recall work was performed on your vehicle.

If this doesn't answer your questions, try a search.

Look here and search for "recall" and "recall kit".
