Edelbrock TBI STB details review

It works pretty well, a noticeable difference, given I have a worn-out RS suspension and anti-performance 60-series tires. Obviously it is most noticable when going around curves, surprisingly the car seems to not roll as much, as well as the reduced understeer is nice.

The install wasn't very hard. First time I ever had to drill holes in a car. The only mildly frustrating part was the gap between the bar and distributor near the firewall, it's hard to get your hands/tools under there but I'm splitting hairs.

The kit was missing 10-12 washers that go on the short bolts, which was no big deal, just went to hardware store. I ordered from JEGS so I don't know whose fault it was.

The fit and finish was quite acceptable, but a few design details aren't optimal from the maximum performance standpoint. The long bolts that go through the brackets and bar ends on the strut tower are a fairly smaller diameter than the holes in the bar, so there is some slack there. I think I might compensate for that by putting some sleeves inside the bar's holes to be real tight on the bolt.

Another thing I would like to improve is also an aspect of the shock tower brackets and bars, although the current design IS a necessity to allow more adaptable fitment to slightly different cars. Anyway, the brackets just squeeze the bar in place with a bolt going though to hold it in, (I know I need pics but I don't have a digital camera) so some parallelogram-style movement is possible although the rigid firewall mount can sorta compensate. What I would like to do is have the bar solid-welded to the brackets to eliminate that possibility of flex. I'm seriously considering taking a welding class so I can learn to build things like this myself, have absolute quality control. I also think the strut tower brackets ought to be thicker steel.

Summary: good quality, non-challenging install, noticeable improvement, but design could be better. So unless you can weld and want to build your own, this is what you need for your TBI/carb car.

Can't go wrong with an STB on our cars, someone's gotta fix the mistakes of GM....

Looks nice....and improved handling is always a plus...

Will that work with the Camaro SS hood and still allow you to make the scoop functional....or will it get in the way?
