What backspacing for a 17 x 9

I finally found a wheel that both the wife and I agree on, (it is technically, legally her car).
It is sold In a 17 x 9 with a 5 inch backspacing, or a 16 x 8 with a 4.5 inch backspacing. I would like to run the 17 inch but not sure if this backspcing would work.
BTW, the wheel is the new Cragar Soft 8 in Chrome.
