Parking brake cable without a lift.

Anyone have suggestions for removing my old parking brake cable without a lift? I can't find a way to jack it up to get enough clearance between the driveshaft and tunnel so I can get my hand up in there and squeeze that stupid retainer or even bend the tabs in.

Last resort is to take it somewhere and have them put it on a lift. With the 1 hour minimum labor I'd hate to do that, as everything else is done except that retainer under the car. Five minutes of work for $50 yuck.

Just take the driveshaft out.

Do you have ramps and a set of jackstands? Just put the car on those and you'll have plenty of room.

Thanks I'll try the jackstand and ramps. I guess under the rear subframe would be the best place for them?

I just keep the front wheels on the ramps and put a set of truck/SUV (taller) jackstands under the rear...works just fine.
