better SFC's?

better SFC's?

I welded in a set of alston SFC's for my vert several years ago.
I was dissapointed with the results and noticed little if any difference.

I recently talked to a chassis guy here in denver who builds a lot of race cars to get his opinion on what else I can do to stiffen up the car. He has done several camaros and usually runs square tube steel from the front to the back and then welds them into the floor pans as well.

This sounds great execpt it is expensive, I gotta pull the seats and carpet out , so its more of a project than i want to make it.

I did a lot of reaseach before I bought the alston's but that was several years ago and it was still based on peoples opinions.

Is there a documented better way to go then the alston's?
It seems like there must be cause as soon as i got them out of the box they looked pretty weak to me.

Still, has anyone tried different types and determined the best one??

This has to be a first. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say they were disappointed with the Alstons.....I know they made a HUGE difference in my '91.

Anyway, some guys like the perimeter type SFC's (i.e. Spohn) better than the frame-frame type (Alston.) Some guys like the frame-frame better. It comes down to personal preference I suppose, although it IS possible to run both types at once.

It'd be nice to run both the perimeter AND the alston/Mac style--however; verts come stock with a rain gutter style connnectors that would block the perimeter type from being installed.

EDIT: said spohn; meant perimeter style

These comments make sense based on what I have read.There sure seemed to be a lot of different opinions as to which type is better. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I was thinking of trying to add the spahn SFC's but I didn't Know they won't work on a vert. That surprises me because I thought the frames were the same . Did they modify the frame when they did the conversion to convertible?

Can anyone think of a way to make the spahn or other perimeter SFC's work?
