89 Turbo brake question
Did all of the turbo TAs come with 1LE brakes? There was no 1Le on the RPO sheet but they look like the 1LE brakes. My dad just bought one and there seems to be a large amount of slop in the calipers. You can shake them with no effort. Feels like bolts are missing or something. I think something is wrong with them. Also are there some kind of pins that guide the calipers like on the non 1LE brakes or do they just float?

The rear will have "1LE" spec calipers but all of them '89-up got the rear PBR calipers. Look at the fronts...If they're aluminum, it's a 1LE car. But maybe all TTAs got the 1LE stuff...I dunno.

All 89 TTA's have the 1LE breaks front and rear. You can get rebuilt calipers from your auto parts store, just ask for the high performance once for our cars or the Corvette.

What he said. There's usually a higher price for the 1LE calipers but the C4 HD (J55) calipers will fit just right and work fine.

Thanks for the info.
I can really shake them around by hand. Probably a 1/4 inch or so in every direction. Should there not be that much play in the caliper? would the fact that the pads are worn out cause a lot of play in them or are they bad? Most of the places I have checked have the calipers for about 120per side. Does this sound about right?

There is a single pin at the bottom held in with an E clip. At the top the ears on the pads slide in a groove in the caliper bracket

If you lightly press the brake pedal do they grap the rotor or are they still loose? If they are still loose I say the pistons are stuck in the bore.

Instead of buying new ones, just rebuild them or shoot them to me and I'll do it for ya.

The loose fit has nothing to do with the calipers. It's how the brake pads fit into the carriers. If the the tolerance is loose, then the caliper/pad assembly will shake or rattle.
I'm using the EBC Greenstuff pads and I massgaed them a little becuase I didn't like their build quality. This made them operate smoother, but also created a slightly loose fit.
Going forward is fine, but when backing up and I hit the brake pedal you can clearly hear and feel the calipers move. It's really no big deal though and I'll correct it with the next set of brake pads.

There is no slack when the pedal is depressed. Sounds like this slop could be normal. the pads are pretty bad looking. I will get some new pads and probably the rebuild kit for them depending on the slop with the new pads. The way the assembly looks it seems like the movement was not a problem but I figured I would check.
Thanks for the responses
Under normal driving conditions is there any reason that EBC greenstuffs would not work with parts store replacement rotors?
