are there gear box differences

Hey everyone,

I found a place that has an IROC and forgot to ask them what year or if it still has a gear box.

I want to swap my regular one for one of those (or WS6). Q: are they all the same for different years? Or should I watch out for some of them even though they are from an IROC?

My car is 88 camaro.

I'll be talking to the people tomorrow, so any info you guys can give me will be very much appreciated.

Do a search and you will find all the info you need. Yes there were different gear boxes; the one you probably want is the quick ratio gear box. It can be identified by a “Z” cast into the gear box.

I did searches, and funny I even found some of your posts telling others same thing you told me. I guess you are really sick of the popular questions, aye?

Let me try to rephrase what I was asking.

I have 88 car. Are there any years of IROC's I should stay away from? Or would they all fit? I am curious if there were any changes in sizes, mounts...

Also did all IROCs have the box that had "Z" and 26000525 stamped into it, or was the fast ratio box an option on IROCs?

This info I couldn't easily dig up. Sorry for redundant posts

Here's the deal. I just called the people, and they ask me which suspension is the gear box for. Choices are:
- Standard
- Firm
- Heavy Duty

I tell him, it had to come from an IROC, and he says it is not an option in the computer. So which option do you guys think it is?

My guess would be the last 2.
I picked up 2 "Z" box's and only 1 of them was a 2.25 turn lock to lock box, the other was a normal 2.5 turn so it isn't JUST the "Z" marked box's. It had to have the 16" wheels and WS6 suspension for the pontiacs, I don't know about the camaro's but that's how you can be sure. You can also order both and turn the input spline by hand measuring how many turns you can get, that's how I tested mine.
