What type of paint should I use to paint the actual backing plates for the brake pads and shoes. Mine are red and I want to paint them black, but what will withstand that type of heat?

 

umm thats not paint it is anti squeek compound. it helps the padsfrom vibration and chattering noises/ if you put paint on em i'm not sure what the effect will be. you should use a high heat like engine paint.

UMM, what are you talking about? The backing plates on my pads/shoes are powdercoated red I believe. Where did anti squeek come into play here? I've painted the pads on my LS1 with caliper paint and they have started to bubble. What should I use?

 

I used high temp engine paint from CarQuest. No problems. Check the pics, if you wish:
