Issues with C5 brakes and 17" TT2s
Hello folks,
I got my C5 brake conversion from Ed a few weeks back (thanks again for all the help man!!!) - and thought I'd share my findings for those interested.
First off, here is what I went with:
- Z06 calipers
- Drilled/slotted rotors
- Earl's braided lines
- Ed's brackets and handywork on getting all the bits & pieces to put it all together

It all went on well and was done in no time flat! However, the problem came when I put the wheels on (17x9,5" TT2 with 5.25" backspacing and 275/40s).
The shape of the spokes on the TT2s just won't clear the calipers. I would think the 18" or bigger version of the wheels will clear though.
In order to make the brakes clear the spokes, I had two options. One was to use a spacer, the other to modify the caliper.
I tried the easy solution first and added a spacer. Using two of the stock 3mm spacers for the rear wheels did the trick to clear. However - the wheel was now way outside the wheel well.

So next I switched the front and rear wheels as I have 5.5" backspacing on the rears - and that took care of some of the problem, but they were still sticking out a bit too much. So now I had to hit the calipers, first with a grinder and then with a file and finally with sandpaper.

After grinding the very corner of the calipers down I picked up some 5mm spacers. I would've prefered 4mm, but wasn't able to find any. The fit is now tight, there is not much clearance between spoke and caliper.

All in all Im very happy with the brakes, but wish I had 18"s so I wouldn't have to use spacers as the added track width from the conversion already put the wheels further out than I particularily like. This combined with the spacers made my car unbelivably sensitive for uneven roads. It tracks a lot when braking and changing lanes.

BTW, as you can see, I repainted the area that I ground down on the calipers red again. At first I thought I might look nice without painting it if I polished it to a mirror shine, but all it really did was take away from the "Corvette" lettering. So as soon as I saw it on the car with the wheels on - I knew that I had to paint it.

Thanks guys,
Nolan,
Yes, there is a tremendous difference in braking power. I still haven't hit it all the way as Im a little easy on them now in the beginning.
semiller,
I got all parts through Ed Miller, Im not sure but I believe he got them from gmpartsdirect.com as well.
Im sure he'll chip in later and correct me if that is wrong!
