Shaking at Idle

I did a quick search but want to confirm I understand some of the posts correctly.

I have an 1986 LG4 (305 4bbl) IROC with 40k original miles. It was tuned up three years / 6000 miles ago. It sat for two years without much driving. In the year I had it I put on 5k miles.

At idle / moving slow, the steering wheel and manual gear shifter shake -- not violently. At low speeds the steering wheel shimmies. At idle or low speeds the shifter ball skakes. Neither really shakes while driving around town or in the highway. This happens even after the engine is warmed up. The steering seems to work fine.

What I read could be the problem:

1. Engine misfiring (check timing / compression / give it a tune up even though it just had one 6k miles ago),
2. Bad Engine Mount,
3. Bad Tranny Mount (when I "floor it" the tranny does not jump through the floorboard so hopefully this is not the case),
4. Bad cam.

Is there anything I missed? I am assuming it is not drivetrain (i.e. drive shaft / tires) or suspension as the car does not shimmy or shake on the highway.

Thanks.

tighten up your tranny mounts, sounds like the same thing that happened in my truck. It wasnt a big problem, just kind of a nuisance.

motor mount

I would check all your mounts, especially your motor mounts. Have some one sit in the car and put it into drive/1st gear and apply pressure to the brake. If there are loose motor mounts the engine will lift up noticably. Hope this helps. Oh ya do this with car running.

i would say no to the cam since it runs

i would add in tires outta round from sitting, not that common with radials but can still happen.
