willwood brake ?'s

has anybody ever seen or used the willwood front or rear brake kits?
I am really curious how well they stop compared to stock brakes when the car has rear drums.

Any disc rear will help you bigtime over drum rears.

I currently have the LS1 Wilwood 12.19"x.81" 4pots on the rear right now with the SRP 2pc rotors. I'm very happy with the setup, but its alot of brake compared to my current front setup. I have Wilwood custom fronts going on very soon.

what kind of car are those rotors for?

I have a 9" ford big bearing rear end, and I would like to put a rotor on mine like the one you have.

how much better does your car stop now compared to stock?

Car stopped faster with my other setup. Its currently out of balance and too powerful in the rears right now.

I've heard that statement before...remember when Colt but those big *** Wilwoods out back on his car? He said it ended up being waayyy too much brake back there as he went back to his old system IIRC...maybe he'll chime in. You can go too big on rear brakes and it'll throw the rest of the car off...no offense, Dean, you know you're stuff obviously.

Here's Colt's thread on what he did for those who haven't seen it:

No problem Ed. I just stated that for him or anyone else reading this and wanting to put a rear kit onto there car thinking they can keep the fronts original iron calipers or even PBR. I installed the rears first because of a dire need to get rid of the rattling rear calipers. Car stopped great with all the aftermarket crap I did to the stock system, but I couldn't handle the rattling noise that came back within days of me fixing it time and time again. My wife drives this car mainly during the day running around town locally on surface streets. She rarely ever drives freeways or gets it up past about 45-50 mph so the rears being out of bias is not an issue for her driving style while I get the fronts in order. Ythis car doesn't stop as fast as it was, but it still stops much faster than any stock 3rdgen. I just can't come down on them more than about 80% right now without the rears locking. I had it on Cal Spway once like this unexpectedly (took my father-in-law for a few laps to show him the course) and I had to pedal the hell out of it coming off the high bank into the infield section. (Me weighing 240 and him weighing 285 didn't help matters either)

Yeah, I would definitly recommend sorting out your front brakes first and then if you still want more then bring your rears up to match, but keeping the bias the right way (with fronts locking first) is advisable for safety. Last thing you need in an emergency stop is the tail sliding round.

I was fortunate that I started from the point of having 4 wheel disks (just J65). I moved up to the 13" pro series kit from Alloy/spohn on the front, and fitted a wilwood proportioning valve and new stainless steel braided lines for the rear. I have done some tuning of the bias and have not got near 100% of pressure to the rears so therefore while my rears are not great they are a match for the big fronts until I start road racing.

Si.

ps. nice looking front setup, vsixtoy!
