autoxing a car with t tops
autoxing a car with t tops
I've asked the convertable forum, but its pretty dead, can anyone here offer much advice about how much potential a car with T tops has for autocross, its going to be getting a 12 point cage with sfc's intregrated into it among some other work, will that compensate or will I always be a step behind an equivalent hard top car, thanks for any actual experience or referals to other sources of info

One of the fastest CP cars in my region is a t-top camaro. with the cage, it will be plenty stiff. for auto-x you should be fine with t-tops. But if you want to step up to some other form of racing, like CMC or AI, I would want a hard-top car to start off with.

I would assume if he is doing a 12point cage, he wasn't planning on running f-stock
good assumption
really I'm just looking for something fun, and I happen to have this t top camaro that fills the bill, if I was going for the glory, I'd get a hard top, but I want something thats quick but still fun to cruise, the cage is partly to stiffen the car, but mainly so that my girl can turn laps in it without making my hair fall out (i'm very protective), I couldn't care less about what class they stick me in
I'm asking more to get an idea than anything else because although I've known quite a few guys running the gen3 f bodies, I've yet to know anyone or even really get a chance to check out a fast car with t tops, so I had no idea what I'm getting into or what I should expect from the car, I just don't want to put more into it than the car can live up too, if its destined for nothing more than cruising thats fine, but if its got more potential I'm game for that
thanks
I'd still appreciate any information or experience anyone has to offer, I was going to go with a 383, some mild vortec heads, eventually go over to a EFI setup, looking to get in the 400+ neighborhood but not much over that, I was going to put in an 8.5 ten bolt to keep unsprung weight down, talked to moser and they said they can live fine as long as I avoid slicks and keep the motor under 550 ft lbs and I don't go deeper than 4.11 gears, I hear the s10 axels are 1.5 inches wider on either end, does that really cause much troulbe with wheel fitment and rubbing or is it just cosmetic, and I know I'll need some kind of traction bars, but would I be losing much from the suspension by dropping the torque arm, I'm wanting more road preformance than quarter mile times from this car
can anyone recommend a good shop to go to in north NJ for the work getting the hardware for the axel housing switched and possibly shortening the housing? thanks
