Wheels, how wide can I go?

I'm restoring an 89 IROC-Z and want to install wide rear tires. I'm thinking 18X8.5 front with 235/40 tires & 19X10 with 275/35 tires. I want to go as wide as possible without causing myself any problems. Anybody know how far I can go? Also, I'm new here and really love this site. I went to "spohn.net" and was impressed by their prices and products. With the suspention mods I'm planning I'll save a bundle going with them. I'm also having trouble finding wider wheels for my IROC if anyone has any ideas there to. Thanks in advance for any advise I;m given.

Welcome to the site... There are plenty of guys running 9.5" wide Ronal R15 "firehawk" wheels on all four corners in 275 rubber. I am sure one of them can tell you if there are any rubbing issues.

There are other guys running the 8.5" front, 10" rear you were thinking. The only mod I've heard of is rolling the rear fender lip to prevent contact. Not sure if it's neccessary. Boyd Coddington rims seem to be popular as well as ROH.

You may also get a good response on the "Auto Detailing and Appearance" board.

Good luck
