Scraping, Knocking, Rattling noises .... very bad
im just lookin for some opinions, i have an '85 Z28 w/ an A/T . every morning i start my car and let it warm up for about 10-15 mins. , when i go to pull outta my driveway, which is like a small steep hill (going up) there is a really loud noise, hard to describe, it's like a knocking sound mixed with some rattle and scraping, that comes from the front end, the knock kinda sounds like its coming from the engine but i can't really tell. as for the other sounds, brakes? suspension? i don't know ... i checked the pads and they look fine, and nothing is out of place under the car that i can see, without a lift anyway. the other thing is everytime i stop after leaving, only when completely stopped ... not during braking, the knock/rattle sound is there, loud. but all this only happens first thing after the car has been sitting for hours and has gotten completely cold. when it happens i've also noticed that the RPM's are pretty high, around 1500-1700. i can't remember when it started but its been at least a couple months, and has gotten worse progressively. has anyone had a problem like this , or have any suggestions on what may be wrong? i finally have some cash , and have an appointment to have it looked at, but not for a week. i'd like to at least have some idea of what could cause something like this. any help would be appreciated.

well , i'm not sure i can rely too much on the gauge, it normally stays just above 30psi for the most part ... but occaisonally it jumps to around 60 and stays there , and sometimes it shows lower than 15 ... its been like that since i got the car and no mater what it has shown for oil pressure i still get that noise .. i was pulling up and down the driveway today ... listening carefully to it ... i don't think it's engine related ... i think its something with the suspension or drivetrain, it seems to happen when the weight of the car is shifted to the rear going up the hill, and there is not as much weight on the front wheels. we can't upload sound clips here can we? lol ... would prolly be a lot easier if ya could hear it. heck , even a vid. well i got a pic of the driveway here ...

so i just found this post again and figured i would post that i found the problem .... turns out the torque converter bolts were loose and made little egg-shape holes in my flexplate ... so when i was stopped or taking off slowly it was making a rattling noise as the T/C knocked against the flexplate .... i ended up replacing the T/C with a holeshot 2000 and got a new flexplate. problem solved.
thanks to everyone who left feedback.
