Front end rebuild kit?

Im looking for a good front end rebuild kit. Any suggestions. I like spohns but its $360. Does anyone have performance tierods, idler arm, joints or is it just best to replace them with stock. Im looking for more performance. My 88 has 170k on it so what should i look for in a kit/need? Thanks

I did mine with parts from NAPA.
Their lower line is Moog, the upper line is even nicer.

I got solid tie rod sleves, through coleman racing, and then ES a-arm bushings. If you really want the best a-arm bushing, the Global-West Del-a-lum bushing are very nice, but come at a price.

IMO there are just some parts of the steering linkage that dont need to be upgraded or replaced unless they are bent or broken. I think alot of these kits are there for people that either got in an accident or people that just want to replace everything for the sake of replacing everything. Thats my opinion of course. I dont want to kill your idea or anything, but I would replace the bushings and ball joints and stuff before replacing an undamaged centerlink. I'm pretty hard on my cars and the stock linkage is good. I would second Dewey's recommendation of stronger tie rod sleeves though. The stock plastic ones are really weak.

is centerlink/steering linkage the same? Im stuck on old school language from auto manuals, so im rough on this lingo.

i dont have any sort of plan or idea that my mind was set on so dont worry about anyone killing anything i only want to replace parts which actually need replacing or parts that could be replaced for better performance. For example getting a performance centerlink? or is there no such setup?

I believe spohn uses moog parts in their kit. You recommend napa parts though, the "upper line". Thats good because my shop carries those anyways. Ill post a pic of spohn's kit and maybe you could tell me if ill need all that or if i need more.
* Moog Centerlink
* Moog Idler Arm
* Moog Inner Tie Rod Ends (Qty. 2)
* Moog Outter Tie Rod Ends (Qty. 2)
* Moog Lower Ball Joints (Qty. 2)
* Extreme-Duty Tie Rod Adjusters (Qty. 2)
all that is in the kit

Thanks

The kits replace all the wearable parts on the front end. You don't need to do it all the time, but if it's a first time replacing any of the front end on a 3rd gen, it's a good bet that they are worn out. After that, you can replace the parts as needed. Sometimes it's just easier to replace it all and get an alignment once instead of repeatedly. Alignments cost $$$ and usually aren't done again for free if a part is replaced.
