Got my profab k-member in car. Motor in car. Hedman headers and mustang rack. But the hedman shorties don't work with the steering shaft. The #5 primary is just in the way.
You guys who have tubular K-members, and headers, and rack & pinion. What are you using for headers? Got any pix?

I don't have a R&P but I still had clearence issues with my large tube headers. Nothing a big hammer to the tubes didn't fix. I only had 2 tubes that were causing problems and the worst one was #4 cylinder. The tube is dented so much now to go around the Profab K-member it looks like the k-member pipe goes through part of the header tube.
Many factory headers have strategic dents to clear components. The BBC Hooker swap headers have a dent to clear the steering shaft right from Hooker.

I'd love a R&P but I'm in the same boat. The header tubes with the BBC are just so big that it's impossible to route the steering column through the tubes to where a R&P needs to be hooked up. Even now I had problems running the lower part of the steering column. I had to relocate it on the firewall outward and upward about an inch just to clear the header tubes.
The lower part of the steering column doesn't have to be a single shaft. I've seen custom fabrications to get around obsticles but using 2 short shafts with an extra u-joint and a support. I'm not sure if you have enough room for that but you probably do. It's not cheap though. Good steering shaft u-joint couplers are around $50 each plus the shaft, support etc.

I had talked to Flaming river about making a custom 2 joint setup...suprisingly the cost was not that bad>>I did not end up doing it...BUT basically they wanted me to spec out how the bracket/support shaft bearing setup wuld look and then give them legnth dimensions... It all sounded very easy to me>>>But I got extremely lucky with my custom turbo headders to where the arm just barely clears... No dents..
I have that exact same profab setup.
the guy I bought it off of had to dent one primary to clear the shaft, that was with long tubes on a small block.
my turbo setup is nothing like that though!
the one thing I don't like about the mustang rack is I have no turning radius at all!

Car runs now. Need to adjust valves and stuff, and just mash the rad support a hair more for the intercooler.
