275 rears on an 86 Ta with 15x8 Wheels

First of i'm new here, just bought an 86 WS6 TA, its got 2nd Gen TA wheels on it and is is need of new tires, I'm wondering if 275's would fit on the back and if they would be safe on an 8inch rim.

In addition on this car I think that a wider rear tire with a smaller front tire would look good, If anyone has suggestions i'd like to hear from them.

IMHO, a 275 tire on a 8 inch rim is NOT safe. I'm sure someone will tell you how they got it to fit, and it may, but the sidewall must stretch in so far, I wouldn't trust it.

for road racing, i wouldn't consider it, but for drag racing, it's a great tire/wheel size combo. are you looking to run a 275/50 or 275/60? a 275/60 is a 28" tire and works great on an 8", heck, i got one on a 7"! a 275/50 has less side wall and will work on an 8" but i wouldn't suggest on a 7". that big sidewall is very forgiving on the 275/60 and allows the use of the smaller wheels. been running the 275/60 street tires for about 6 months on my 7" wheels and have been running the 275/60 bfg drag radials on 7" wheels for the last 4 years without trouble. you can see in my sig what the 275/60 looks like on the 7" wheel. i am upgrading to a 15x8 draglite for the street tires in about 2 weeks.

hope this made sense, if not, i will try to reclarify.

Thanks for the information. That hood is the stock hood but it has an L88 hoodscoop fiberglassed onto it. So if 275/60's fit fine, what would you suggest for a front tires 225/??/15 Something i'd assume not too much different in sidewall height but i'd like the slightly smaller diameter front tire.

i am running a 215/65/15 tire up front which is a 26" tire. it is also the stock size for most base model camaro/firebird with 15" wheels.

here is a full size pic of my sig pic, hope this helps.

Are your gonna be running stock width front rims also, or going to a narrower width front rim.

275/60-15 out back 28" tall
215/70-15 up front 27" tall
or you could go
225/70-15 as well up front 27.5" tall
