I recently bought some 17" hyper black SLP and everyone was is recommending 45's or higher and I was wondering why not use 35's, isnt it a closer match and better size?

or use a 275/40/17 tire and have the same exact height as a stock tire (245/50/16 or 215/60/15) which is 25.7 inches.

Use either a 245/45-17 or 275/40-17. Using a 35 series 17" rim is just silly.

Unless the wheel is a 11" wide one and you run 315-35-17, you will make the car look like a toyota lowrider on gold daytons.....
A 245 width tire should be 245-45-17; a 275 width one should be 275-40-17.

those rims are 17x8, so use 245-45-17s
The stock tires where either 215 or a 235 with a 26/26.1 diameter. The 235's match the stock option width and are .15 larger in diameter.
The 245/40's are .22 smaller in diameter.

I'm not quite sure you do if you say 245/40r17s are only .22" smaller than stock. 245/40R17 tire = 24.7" tall..that's tiny. 235/45R17 is only 25.3"....still on the small side.
Stock on my car was 245/50R16. Thats a 25.66" tall tire. Oddly enough, a 245/45R17 as recommended above a few times is an exact match. That's what I'm running up front, and it looks good (of course it'd look even better if I had my front lowering springs in already).

Oops, I meant 50's. If you look it is much closer to the stock tire size. The stock sizes are the first two you see as factory options, The third is close and the fourth is your recommendation. The car had 245's on it when we got it and there were rub marks in the rear wheel wells at the springs and rubbed the frame in front. I realize with the 17 inch wheels I wont have as much sidewall bulge but was being cautious.

Ah you're right if that car came with 15s stock. If that car came with 16s stock though, it should've had 245/50R16 which would be 25.66" tall (exactly same as 245/45R17). If that car came with 15s stock, then you're right that it would have the 26.0-.1" tall tires.
Alright sorry for a slip-up, I had the 15" 5 spokes. So is there any reason why I should still use the 245's you mentioned?
