What spring rate to get
Hi guys,
I have an 87 WS6 and was wondering what the spring rate is? I had an old book I think it was called something like Camaro Performance Handbook. Anyway I remember reading in there that the WS6 cars had somewhere around a 550 lbs per inch rate and other V8s had around a 350 lbs per inch rate. It stated in the book that you could use the lower rate springs without hurting performance but yet gaining a better ride. It that true? I plan on dropping the car and the guys from the local Advance Auto Parts have a whoe catalog full of springs to order from, so I just need an idea where to start.
Thanks
Bob

I don't even think that v6 springs are down near 350. From what I remember reading, I think stock is six hundred something. Lowering springs usually run higher spring rate because they don't have as much hieght to travel.
You should just be able to tell them what car you have and they've give you specific options on springs with a certain selecton of heights (more of the illknowledgable general public just care about height, than spring rate).

I’ve actually measured a bunch and the performance ones that I’ve tried have all been between 560 and 525 lbs/in. a set of RS springs that I tried were right around 400lbs/in.
