Steering Ration for 1989 RS
A quick bit of background: I am in the process of cloning an IROC-Z out of my '89 RS. The work was already started for me with the 16" Single stripe IROC wheeels that were on the car when purchased. I have since installed a TDS Wonderbar and KYB AGX struts. My question is this: is my car equipped with the faster 2.5 Lock to Lock steering box that came on the sportier models such as the Z and the IROC-Z, or does it have the slower 3.5 Lock to Lock steering box that came on less sportier Camaros? I had always assumed that it had the 3.5 box, but in reading the Camaro Performers Article, "Third Gen Evolution" elsewhere on this site, it states that RSs such mine came equipped with "Quick Ratio Steering" in addition to a Sport Suspension. With this parity between the only to trim options, does this mean the 1989 IROC was pretty much an appearance package and an option of a bigger engine (5.7)? Along these same lines, which Third Gens came equipped with the 2.25 LTL steering boxes I have heard about? Were these only available as part of the 1LE package for Camaro and WS6 for Firebird? Thanks in advance for help you can provide in answering these questions
