I've seen many of the tags and they all look the same. I've never seen anything explaining the numbers.

All the late model S10 boxes are the same. They never offered a quick ratio box in the S10.

I just bought a manual s10 gear. Are there any special things I will need to do to install this gear on a 3rg gen. I.E. swap pitman arm or anything. or is it just a straight swap.

I mocked mine up right away with my parts car that has no motor making the mock up pretty easy. THIS IS NOT A STRAIGHT FORWARD SWAP. I had to put a little dent in the frame in order for the box to sit flat and I also had to grind a groove for clerance with the brkt that will otherwise be in the way. if you send me your email I can send you the pics of the 2 mods and if you know how to post them on here then please do. I tried but the pics are to big and I dopn't know how to make them smaller, I'm not much of a computer guy I know.

Mine bolted right in. I think it depends on what steering box you have. The early box has 3 bolts on the top cover. The late box has 4 bolts on the top cover. Most of the problems people have when installing them is clearance at the sway bar.

Although the S10 pitman arm will work, it's slightly shorter than the third gen pitman arm. You should use your pitman arm to keep the same steering geometry but for most people, you'll never know the difference.

You can't put a late model, third gen, pitman arm onto an early model steering box. The sector shaft is too small on the early box.

well I just did my manual S10 gearbox swap today and I took the car out for a test drive and I am extremely happy with it. actually it almost feels like you still have power steering, not anywhere near as bad a anyone might think at all. I have the 4 bolt gearbox and I had to cut a groove in the webbing of the lower back bgolt hole and I also had to dent (very slightly) the frame to get it to sit flat otherwise the box would rock. the only issue I have to deal with now is the steering wheel is of by about 90 degrees but that will be an easy fix. I am not sure what if all man S10 box have the same gear ratio but mine is 7 turns lock to lock and you do notice the diff in gear ratio campared to the quick ratio box but its not really a big deal. this box of course would not be for anyone thinking of autocrossing.this peticular swap cut 23lbs off of the front of my car!! so if your looking for a way to cut on some of your weight then this might be an option for you.
