Spacer Question
I have stock Camaro rims on my 91, they are the old 5 star Iroc rims except that they are flat, not concave.
I noticed a 1/8 spacer on the front rims. It came with the car, I don't know why they are there. The tires are 225 50R 16.
I think it is creating a vibration because at 140km/h or 90miles an hour, the bloody car and the dash feels like it's going to fly off and hit me on the head. I made sure the dash is bolted down good.
Any ideas why that spacer is needed?
Thank you

There is no reason to run spacers on stock rims, esp. with that size tire. Take them off, test for clearnce (in case something is messed up, and the spacers are compensating) if it is good, run the car, and see what happens.

Those spacers you mention are for the back wheels on rear drum cars with 16" alloys. The fronts need no spacers. If you don't want them, I'll take them...LMK..

For the rear? There are no spacers in my rear wheels. But there are some minor grooves on the inside lip of the rim as if it was rubbing on something. I will transfer them to the back and keep an eye out for rubbing on all wheels.
Thank you for the replies.

Are you sure the wheels are stock from an fbody? Any pics of them? Seems rather odd that stock wheels would rub a tie rod..

don't know much about the camaro rims but, I have an 88 F/bird
with WS-6 alloy's. The front have more off-set than the rear and it looks like the rear rims belong on the front and the front on the rear. I tried to switch them but the rears wouldn't work because the wheel weights hit the tie-rods.
I clicked on this forum because I also was curious about the spacers on my rear wheels. The only thing I can figure out, is they were used to change the off-set of the rear's for handleing
with the WS-6 package. Someone might have switched or added the spacer's to your front wheels for clearance.
One wouldn't think that 1/8 in. would make much difference in handleing but I've seen a local dirt track driver of late models run lap after lap of practice trying to get the handleing right useing spacers to change the off-set. He had a box full of them from 1/16 to 1/2 in.
After I got a new set of 245/50/16's from sears and they bent one of my rear rims and then refused to make good on their screw up by replacing it either with a new one or after market, I've decided to find a set of after markets and was wondering how much it was going to screw up the geometry of my WS-6 package. If you ever buy tires from sears, I would get them cash and carry and either mount them yourself or take them to someone you trust not to bend your rims because if they do, your screwed!!
