No TransAm or Firebird was equipped with the steering box brace (aka, the Wonderbar). Only Camaro had the IROC designation.

uhm ya.. sorry if I wasn't clear...
as far as I know all firebirds and forumla's didn't have a wonderbar...
however did all Chevrolet Camaro "IROC-Z"s have a wonderbar?? I have two '88 IROC's and I know the one has the steering brace.. just curious if they all had it as a standard item or if it was an option with these IROCs?

I've never seen an IROC without a Wonderbar (though I haven't seen every one)
. I believe the Wonderbar was standard on IROCs--at least those with 16 in wheels. The Camaro WhiteBook, as part of the IROC option (B4Z), mentions it as "front frame rail reinforcement."

This topic should somehow be the very first warning to anyone entering TGO.
Thes cars are subject to the frame cracking behind the steering box due to excessive strain on this area when cornering.
Chevrolet knew this and installed the wonderbars onto the better performing harder cornering IROC Camaros that came factory with the wider 8" rims.
Why Pontiac never added one is beyond me since the GTA is heavier and has subsequently more strain in this area due to weight.
Everyone that does not have one should make a cheap insurance purchase and buy one unless the car is a drag race only car.

I knew that some IROCs had 15s, but I wasn't sure about the Wonderbar--makes sense though, it is an IROC after all. Do the wheels look like the standard IROC 16s?
