i have been considering switching to manual steering.

how well does it do in aggresive city driving and at low speeds,like parking lots and intersections?


i have an iron duke so 1 less pump on the motor would free up some hp ,starting with 80hp,anything more is very welcome.

i have an 83 firebird se, so is manual steering something i should be getting?

im not afrraid of a little effort when turning the wheel,but if its
takes ecsesive force to turn the whell and i would lose driveability ,that would not be a good thing.

how drivable is an fbody with manual?

ive had several cars with manual steering and i liked it better then power,plus i prefer reliability over ''convience'' .

 

I think you would probably regret removing the power steering pump. The steering wheel might slip (out of your hands)easier when turning, and you might have to "concentrate" more on turning than you were before. If you want to gain a little more power, maybe you could install a better flowing induction/ait cleaner

 

For a daily driver, manual has a lot to be desired.

If using a stock steering wheel you should be fine with the added leverage it provides, but if you have a smaller after market wheel, it makes turning a little tougher.

 

i have the stock wheel. and i allready put in a kn filter.

if i get the manual steering and an electric water pump i should get 15-20hp .thats enough for it to be worth it.
