i been searching around about tires on here, i have stock rims on my 84 TA with the firebird center caps. i need to get new rear tires. whats on there now is 245/60R14. from what ive read the 14 would be the rim size but everyone is saying stock rims are 15, what gives, how can i have tires smaller then the rim size. so from what i was reading 235/60R15 is probably the way to go for me, but whats the deal with the 14's on there now? any help, as always much appreciated.

You're not gonna have 14 in tires on a 15 inch rim. Either the rim is not stock or the people are wrong. A way to check what stock SHOULD be/have been on your car, if you still have it, is to check the sticker, usually on the inside of the drivers door/doorjam area. It should tell you the size of the tires out of the factory. This isn't necessarily the current size or the size of the rims. But it'll give you an idea, especially if it matches with your current size. Basically, unless you want new rims, replace the tires with the size on there. You can go up and down in width, 215, 225, 245, etc. But not up or down in actually tire rim size. If they are 14 inch rims, short of magical intervention, you'll never get 12, 13, 15, 16, etc inch tires on that rim. Changing the rim itself is the only way to do that.

hrm ya, my sticker on the inside of the door had been painted over last time the car was painted, much like many other parts, (half *** paint job). but i was able to scrape off the paint and berely make out what it said, stock was P205/70R14. so i guess i'll go with P235/60R14 all around, (whats on the front now. thanks for straightening that out for me.
