The only advantages to manual steering is the weight loss and the extra room under the hood from removing everything related to power steering.
You only gain a little bit of hp from removing the pump. Only a dyno would probably see the difference. The pump is only working and creating pressure when the wheels are being turned so it doesn't load the engine down all the time.

i talked to an s10 guy with a duke and he said when he switched to an elcetric water pump he got 7hp at the wheels.
i am betting the powersteering uses at least that maybe more, and with 80hp to start,i can only go up.
i would like to drive a firebird with manual steering just to see how it will drive,i dont want to spend time and money changing over and find out i dont like it.
i have had cars with manual steering before and i liked it better then power steering, but those were all small japanese cars.
allthou with a duke i have alot less wieght in the front then a v8,so it should be easier to steer then a v8.
i guess more power is a good thing, and im not doing any road course racing,i might start on it next week.
less weight+more power is always good.

S10's that came with manual steering were only 4 cylinder models but not all 4 cylinder models have manual steering. GM decided to put power steering in some of them. It's a cool setup. Normal GM power steering box but the pump is just a tiny belt driven pump with an external reservoir. Only on the iron duke engines though.
