strange cranking noise - Please Help!

I own an 88 iroc-z with a 5.7L 350 TPI, it has 30,000 original miles on it, except for the parts that i replaced, which is only the tires, exhaust, and end links. I noticed this problem from the start, when my car is idle and I turn the wheel to the left or to the right, it makes a nasty and strange 'cranking' noise coming from under the car. I know it has something to do with the chassis and suspension, just do not know where to begin? Please help me, open for advice

THANKS!

Did you grease all the fittings in the front suspension?

Also, check your power steering fluid. If it's low, it'll whine. Not really "cranking" though.
