modding stock pan hard bar?

One of the fox body friends has a turbo notch and he has a supped up suspension. One of the things he did was take the stock pan hard and welded it up. He said they are better than after market ones and he can launch that car into next week. I was wondering if welding up our stock pan hard and support would be worth it? I have someone who can do it cheap.

By welded up, I mean this:
__
/ \ <- stock

__
/__\ <- welded

crappy diagram, but i think it gives the point.

That is not better than an aftermarket tubular PHB

The problem is the rubber bushings during lateral loads. Rod ends are what work best. If you are only drag racing it probbably does not matter.

you mean boxing it. welding in a strap of steel. I've done that to mine. Cheap and easy. Also, poly bushings for the PHR are only $20USD, and you can easily put them in yourself (unlike those godforsaken lcas....)

Yea, not as good as an aftermarket tubular, but definately better then stock, i'd say go for it, what do you have to lose right?

I welded mine up and installed poly bushings and I think it works fairly well actually. just be careful welding your panhard bar, I welded mine and got a tad too much heat in it and now it has a very slight bow in it. not enough to really matter, but i did warp it just the same. Just a heads up.

I planned on getting some poly's for them since mine are the original 18 year old bushings. I will keep that in mind. My brace is already bowed a bit, gotta fix that. The V6 was a beast

Thanks for the input.
