Panhard bar dimensions...

Does anyone have any dimensions on the stock panhard bar found on a 92z or any other year using the similar size? I need to get length, width, height and any other info about the mounting holes and distances.... I would do this my self but my car is 350 miles away from me as I am at college right now.

Anyone wondering why... I am redesigning the panhard bar using composite materials and seeing how it performs to the stock steel one. The only problem I have right now is the loads put on the bar. Any ideas on finding the loads that this bar sees? Otherwise I am just doing an analysis to see how long before the bars fail under the tensile loads they face, which I think is all that they really see.. correct?

Thanks for all the help, also pics would be great!

They take tensile and compressive loads, as you corner. They shouldn't see much if any torsional loading.

a tube, fishmouthed at the ends, with other chunks of tubes welded 90* on the ends should work fine. Maybe make the bushing tubes on the sides have a grease nipple, and a grease channel. Or use rod ends. Modelling it in solidworks or something to check strength i'm guessing?

Sorry, no measurements offhand, I just installed mine.... Try searching? I'm not sure you want to ask a manufacturer of aftermarket parts, as you're taking away their business so they may not want to help you....

PS I'm pretty sure all 3rd gens had the same panhard rod. Perhaps 4th gens as well.

Yea, im actually going to model and analize it in ANSYS and who knows maybe i'll come across a new way to reduce weight. I am not going to actually make the bar, this is only just a project I chose to do. I have no idea of the material used so I may just model and analize a bar from an aftermarket manufacturer and compare theirs to a composite one because I can just use properties of chromoly then...

If anyone can get me a pic of the stock panhard bar and/dimensions it would be great. I am sure that there are a few people here interested in these results and i'll be glad to share them when I am done.

you could probably make it out of carbon fiber to reduce weight. We made carbon fiber A-arms on our SAE baby race car at University of calgary. Tensile tested them as well, and even hammered on them while under load to make sure they wouldn't shatter and crack.
anyway.....

I just took some measurements from my old stock bar.The stamped material is about .125 (all measurements were with a tape measure)End to end it measures 45.125. The bolt holes center to center are 43.125. The bolt holes are about 9/16. The bushing housing is about 2.125 on the outside. It is just sitting in the corner of the garage if you need more numbers or more accurate numbers.
