Well this squeak has stumped me.
So over the weekend i start hearing a bad squeak coming from the right front wheel. It got louder and louder as the weekend went by i was out of town at a big car show and didnt have a chance to look at anything. Noticed at all speed over about 15mph any bump/rock anything in the road and it squeaked(sounds like clapping metal/loose change in interior). Now just going in a straight line on "mostly" flat road it squeaked. I had been meaning to replace the wheel bearings so i decided that would be a good first step. Replaced both sides and still same noise coming from right front. (It seems as if the wheel bearings were on the way out on the right i noticed).
As the car is in the air i start banging around everywere to find the squeak. I found it coming from the hub/center by the spindle. I noticed with the caliper off i could bang all day and not get a squeak second i starting tightening down the allen bolts the squeak would come back if i banged the rotor/wheel whatever. So i looked at what i was actually tightening down and with a light saw a small rock behind the backing place spindle. Knocked that out and also some rust with it aannddd it CALMED down the squeak a lot. But its still squeaking. Now shot it was wd-40 and got it to go away almost completly. Drove 1 day and the noise came back. Shot it today with white lithuim...now i sprayed pretty much everywere in contact back there and now no difference, it still squeaks. It is still a minor squeak but not nearly as bad as when i knocked that pebble out. Its enough to bother the hell out of you when driving by cars or building. As in a person walking there dog could hear it.
Im stumped. What is back there that can make this noise. Why is it making the noise when the caliper is tightened down on it? I noticed a tiny bit of surface rust in the caliper(both front are less then 3 months old). New pads with lube on shims and both allen bolts are lubed. I dont get it.
Im not sure if this is a suspension problem or a brake problem.
Any suggestions? Thank you!
