Frame straightening before subfame connector install....

Hey guys, just curious to see if anyone has done this. My camaro had been in an accident prior to me purchasing it. I plan on getting a set of subframe connectors from UMI and having them welded in, but I have been reading some posts about how sometimes the subframes don't line up exactly with the weld points, or don't run parallel to the pinch weld seam. My idea would be to go to a shop that does frame straightening, have them check and/or straighten the frame, and then weld in the subframes at the same time. I believe this would be beneficial in the fact that you wouldn't be welding in subframes on a car with a tweaked or twisted frame. That way you are starting off with a straight chassis that is free of flex, especially seeing as how the chassis has an effect on location of items that are physically bolted up to it ie. rear end, front suspension etc.

If you actually have a nearby place that can make sure the subframe is straight you'd be crazy not to do it, especially if the car has been in any sort of accident that could have possibly damaged the frame. Go for it.

I agree you would be a fool not to do it. If you can find a body shop that has the Genisis alignment. I wouldnt think they would charge more than $100 to check it and have it back to you in a few days. Besides this way you will know if the rebuild was done right or not. cheap insurance in my book

My car had been wrecked too, and I had it on a frame rack while the connectors were welded in place. Was well worth it IMO.
