How to tell lowering springs?

Does anyone know how to tell if I got a car that someone put lowering springs on? I've got a v6(original) 88 camaro that someone changed to 350 but the rear springs look just like a set of eibachs with the progressively wound coils versus my 86 'bird springs that look to have a coil that is constantly sized. Anyone know if it was a v6 thing to have tehm wound that way in the back or if it would be lowerin springs?
Thanks
Kael
