ok to weld k member?
The tab where the a arm mounts to speparated from the k member (only the one side) as a result from a curb accident (25 mph) Can I just have it welded and be able to drive it safely and have it hold under hard cornering or should I just replace the whole thing. Yes I know it would be best just to replace it but I'd like to be back on the road as soon as possible. The actual K member doesnt look bent or twisted, it appears the a arm, spindle, and wheel took the brunt of the impact.

if nothing is bent or compromised, i dont see why a GOOD weld job won't fix it, but a new one is not available unless you get a tubular one, which is an idea, or hit the junkyard.
Time wise its not gonna matter if you replace it or weld it, either way a K-member needs to come out and another one goes back in. The process of doing that is what takes all the time. I would source a used one from the junkyard if it were me, like I said in the other thread as long as its not rusted or bent then its good (not a wear item). If you do have it welded make sure the person doing it knows what they are doing.

this would be one of thoes cases where i would just get a new one... and by new, i mean one from another car.... it should be free or really cheap.. if its not, then look around somemore.

Structurally, it'll be perfectly fine to weld it, it the individual knows what they are doing. But expense wise, if you don't have a welder at your disposal, and will need to take it to a shop and pay for the repair, it may just be cheaper to pick one up at a junkyard.
