What size wheel?

I want to get new wheels for my 1984 trans am but I dont know what back spacing I will need? I want to get some 16x8" wheels and I plan on running 255-60-16's all the way around...what backspacing will I need for the front and back wheels? I am running stock disk-drum brakes by the way.

255/60 might be a little tall for the front,
I have a 245/50/16 on my 86ta, looks great, i guess a 4.5 inch back spacing, but you should get other opinions.

Yeah your right I ment a 245/50-16 thats what they used on the GTA all the way around...I am looking at some GTA wheels but they are so expensive and I can get aftermarket wheels for alot less but I dont now how much back spacing is needed for the front and rear? On the GTA wheels there is a difference between the front and back wheel if you use the back wheels on the front they will rub.

Yea the 91-92 were different, like the camaros, I use the same all the way arround on my 86 and it is fine, I enjoy the ability to rotate my tires and rims ,they make a 275/45/16 @ www.tirerack.com that would be sick for the rear, I am thinking of buying a set of 2.

As a 245 50 16 is 25.7" tall and a 255 50 16 is 26.1" tall, either will be fine and won't cause any speedo issues. So the 25 is not too tall. I would recommend a 4.5" backspace. You won't have any rub issues with either wheel size with this backspace.

Enjoy.........
