Steering Box Part Number
On third Gen Camaro Serie 800 & 808 steering box theres a number stamped just beside the aluminium cover, i got this # 7826692 on my 1984 Camaro, 26000525 on my 1988 G92 IROC-Z and on other steering box come from a 1982 Z28 Camaro 7826692..., is this a part number if no what those number are for?
I looked in the 1982-91 F-Car Parts and Illustration Catalog and none of these number match the part number for Steering Gear.
There are 4 differents parts numbers for the 1982-92 Steering Gear serie 800 & 808 in the 1982-91 F-Car Parts and Illustration Catalog

Thanks JamesC great information about these box, I know i need the XH box with the code # 26000525 on the casting of the steering box but why GM put those number on the box if it's not a part number i know it's a little bit overkill but i realy like to have this info.
For my 1984 Z28 Camaro with 16" IROC-Z wheels it will be a great add-on
no more rubbing inside the fender and better road feel
Thanks again JamesC.

it is the castign number, not the part number
part number woul dbe the entire part/assembly
the casting number is of the casting, the single part itself that the number is on
such as with intake and exhaust manifolds, cylinder heads, and other single casting parts,
the steering box is made of more than one cast part
so it has a part number/assembly number, not the same as any of the casting numbers found on the box assembly
good luck

Thanks for the explanation Randy82ws7.
I din't realise it was a casting number like the head and manifold
Now i know for shure that the box to have in 3rd gen is the HX box with
the casting number 26000525

thats cool
learning new things is good
i never have found the ink code on my 82 t/a box to knwo what it is, but it sur seems to be a very quick ratio, hardly any turning to go lock to lock, so i presume it is most likely a 12.7 ratio
im sure
and the bars under the car are freaking huge,
if its not a WS7 then i dunno what to think anymore
lol
good luck
