Changing Springs to 82 Camaro From 88 Firebird

Hey! Once again, you guys are the most helpful people in the world for my son and I who are trying to "fix up" his 1982 Camaro.
We have an '88 Firebird that originally had a 305 in it.

The Camaro originally had a 2.8l, 6 liter engine in it. Now we have put an 81 Chevy Vette 350 in the Camaro. The front end virtually sits on the ground...the front engine mud flap literally sits approximately 1" from the ground.

I have decided that since the firebird had a V8 in it the springs are probably stronger than the ones in the camaro....am I right?

I have purchased spring compressors to trade the springs from the firebird to the camaro. I have never changed springs on any vehicle before. Does anyone have any advice, hints or tips they would graceously give me before I get started? hehe Like maybe how to get started...lol

Anyway....you guys have been more helpful than anyone on my son's and my Car adventure. Thanks so much for your help and hopefully someday I will be able to help people who need help on this site. I have always been a Ford fan....a Mustang Man...(owned a fantastic 69 coupe), but quickly becoming a CHEVY fan.........love them Camaros!

I do dam near 90% of the work myself on my car. I have done springs twice and I consider the spring compressors widow makers. If you know nothing about it, I would severely consider taking it to a shop and having them swap them out for you. You'll know what I mean when you try to get the new ones in and seated correctly.

spring compressors scare me. i have a set and have taken out my springs twice now and i winch everytime i pull the spring out of the car.

not that hard

put the car in the air with jack stands on the frount sub frame. Useing a jack, put it under the spring perch under the lower control arm put a light amout of pressure on it. Then remove the (2) strut to spindle bolts&nuts, then slowley relive the presure from the jack. The spring should just about fall out. Instal the new spring and reverse prosedure. hope this helps good luck!
