Edelbrock TBI strut tower brace question?

I just purchased one for my 91 RS. I was just eyeballing it up on the car loosely assembled and the brackets didn't seem to sit flat on the strut towers. I didn't drill any holes yet. Anyone have any issues with this brace?Does it just need to be drilled and secured to sit flat on the strut towers? Thanks, Tim

Maybe you had the brackets reversed?Which way were the oriented? The long side on the bracket faces the fender. This is an edelbrock STB for a TPI on my 84, but the brackets should be the same.

Tried the brackets both ways, they just do not seem to want to sit flat on the stut towers. Maybe they just need to be bolted in. i was just trying to do a test fit before drilling anything.

By flat do you mean the brackets are not fully contacting the strut towers. Are you leaving the bolts loose enough. Also the brackets are left & right handed.Try switching them around.

Make sure the brackets are positioned with the taller part of the bracket toward the firewall side and the shorter one to the front of the car. This will allow the mounts to sit flush on the towers and have the brace sitting level. You did position the cowl mount UNDERNEATH the cowl lip, right? If not this would keep the tower mounts from sitting flush as well.

Done and done and it still is not sitting right. I will try and post a pic later.

my edelbrock s.t.b.

i picked mine up today at noon . had the same frustrations as both of you . looked at some pics. here . went back and realized that someone on the assembley line had put the decal on the bottom of the brace , the small decal should face the engine , or down . after that all went smooth . remember the bracket on the back of the brace goes under the lip on the fire wall . if your like me you will drop a nut or 2 getting the rear bolts & nuts started . looks to me that the brace would be in the way of dist. and plug wire work . so when mine comes off next time i am going weld nuts on the underside of the rear bracket . should make it easy to remove and re-install . if you weld nuts when you install/re-install use grade 5 or 8 nuts . [ do not use cheap hardware , you will be sorry if you do ] hope this helps . hope you read this before you start drilling holes . lol uncle tom , ret. acft. mech.

Hey, can you post some up close shots of how the stb brackets sit on the strut tower and cowl area? I bought one for my 83 Z and I am having the same problems as the original poster. Also did your windshield washer pump get in the way?
