STEERING WHEEL PLAY
92 z28 has play in steering wheel, feels like the tilt mech has play in it. not side to side play, but up and down in the column right around where the joint should be, any advice? bought the car from a fat guy that must have hung all his weight off the wheel why he was in full "detroit lean" position, probably used the wheel to pull his fat a$$ out of the car. whats it need?

Same thing as every other GM tilt column since the mid 60s.
It needs the 4 screws that hold the entire tilt mechanism to the column proper, tightened. That's all.
The problem is getting to them. Tightening them is a little bit of nothing, but taking the column apart to get to them and then putting it back together, is a couple of hour job.

When I tightened mine I used a alittle bit of blue loctite on the bolts to keep them tight so this hopefully wouldnt happen again.

thats what i needed, wasnt sure if i should start tearing the column apart without knowing for sure

this car has a few little problems, but every one is a major freaking problem to fix. afteri do that i gotta crack into the window motor, which isnt even in the freaking manual, first time ive ever seen a job in the manual described as "dont touch it! take it to a professional"

There is a good tech article on here that will guide you through on repairing your tilt colum. If you get stuck on anything just email me and I can help walk you through. I just did mines and it was not to bad. Just pay attention to what you are doing according to the tech article and take your time you will make it thru. Be prepared to spend about five hours. Good experience for the soul.
