tire question
hi guys looking to get a set of tires for my ride ...this might sound like a dumb question ..i have seen some tires that are 245/50/16 and look skinney and some 245/50/16 that look nice and wide ....so what are some stock 245/50/16 tires that have a nice wide tread look thanks

Best one I have owned by far is the Goodyear F1 GS-D3. This tire looks AND FEELS meaty. I have BFG KDW tires on it right now and they flat out suck compared to the DS-G3's I jsut had in both looks and mainly performance levels. No comparison at all. I can not wait till these crappy tires fully wear out and I am without hesitation going back to the Goodyears- I have had these KDW BFG's for almost 2 years now and just hate them.

Now the first set of tires I purchased for my thirdgen were Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712 255/50/16 and they were only like $90 a piece and were great. Cornering was excellant even in rain (they definately suck in snow, but how many thirgen's do good in snow) They were not loud at all, I took many trips from VA to MI (800 miles one way) and they rode great! They are directional tires just like the F1's and have a very sweet wide stance to them. Seriously, my car had one sweet *** on her!!!
I would highly recommend these!!!

Price wise if you are on a budget they are fine, But handling wise the Kumhos712's are worse than the BFG's even. in tires, you basically do get what you pay for and that often intels the rubber compound and longevity of it resisting hardness over time. The Kumhos get hard real quick over the months and are an ice skating rink within one year.Tirerack sells the GS-D3's for $155 each, BFG's for $136, and the Kumho's for $83- Even at that price, I would not touch any Kumho's ever again. I have tried a few different sets on other vehicles I own.

Yeah they do get quite hard, but I ran a 15.5 quarter mile in my 100,000 mile LO3 automatic non-posi Formula with 2 year old 712's
So I mean they can't be too bad, and they definately slide around West Virginia mountain curves really well, and they smoke good during burnouts

You don't need tire traction to run 15's. Heck, I run a 15.8 @ 83mph in my 2.8 auto V6 and could not spin these if my life depended on it.
Glock, here's a top to bottom comparison of KDW BFG's (currently on the car) and my old Goodyear GSD3's. Compare the pic angle they are basically as identical as I can get them (basically compare the size of the red tierods in both pics) Now both of these tires are 245/50-16's Its an amazing difference in both looks and perfoermance levels.

Also note that this is the same car in both pics about 3-4 years apart. It has a new longer radiator deflector dam, new brake setup with alum hubs, new swwaybar end links, new exhaust, sheet metal bent downward to reduce air flow up into wheel well, areas were painted black underneath from before pic, New tierod heim, slightly wider scrub radius, and more neg camber- but its the same car. (those are only the changes one can see in this pic, not the whole car)

how are the firestone wide oval $118 per tire and the fuzion zri i think 82 or 88 per tire

Having had the Bfgoodrich kdw's and now having the Goodyear GS-D3's I would definately suggest spending a little more for the Goodyears. They grip much better in dry or wet, and have a quieter and smoother ride.

I was looking at those Yoko AVS 100s until I found out how insanely loud they are once they start to wear. I ran some Falken Ziex tires on the Corvette and was very impressed with their performance, but the tire wear sucked. I understand that I'm not going to get fantastic wear with that type of tire, but these didn't wear evenly. All 4 wore differently, unlike the previous set of tires that wore very evenly.
Now I'm running BFG G-Force Sports on the Corvette and I'm even happier with them than the Falkens. Tire grip is outstanding, and they're a good looking tire. So far tire wear looks even, though I've only got a few thousand miles on them.

Get the Eagles and don't look back. They are just unbelievable. Tirerack.com has them for $155 each and worth every penny.

The set I put on my truck are almost worn out, havent noticed any real tire noise. They're 225/55/16's, somewhere north of 15k miles on them. Grip is just as good as new, as verified on the offramp going home... can go just as fast as when I bought them.
