Aftermarket TQ arm to use with 9"

Hello all,
I'm running a Moser 9" rear in the car with a UMI non-adjustable TQ arm that I had to do mods on in order to fit. It's OK, but I'd like to adjust the pinion angle to hopefully get a little more traction, also getting LCA relocation brackets. I want to switch to a adjustable type, preferrably one that doesn't hook up to the trans (T-5).

I tried the Jeg's adjustable, but after bolting it to the rear mount, it was angled way off up front....to the point I couldn't line it up with the underside of the trans tunnel to bolt it up. It wasn't close, but then again they don't claim it'll fit Moser rears so I returned it.

Which one works best with a 9" and requires NO MODS to make it fit??

If the torque arm doesn't fit, it because of the diff, not the torque arm. All the torque arms should mount the same on the diff. There are a bunch of adjustable models available. Click on any of the TGO sponsor banners. Spohn makes a good one. His includes a tranny crossmember and the torque arm attaches to the crossmember.

spohn and UMI make torque arms that mount to a new tranny crossmember, you have to call UMI though its not on their sire yet

i'm running the jegster torque arm and it fit 100% and was a very easy easy install. There must be weight on the back tires in order to get the torque arm to press the mount again the floorpan initially. Then you can use the bottom adjuster nut to bring the pinion angle into spec.

Stephen, I agree with you 100%....that's exactly the problem I have. I had to grind the front nose of the TQ arm mount on the rear for about 2 hours before I could get this UMI TQ arm to fit, and I didn't WANT to do that - I HAD to in order for it to fit. That was with the rear loaded or unloaded.

The other option I had was to oblong the mounting holes which I didn't want to do. So yeah, it's the differential that's the problem you could say.

But do they mount the same on all differentials? - I beg to differ.....I've seen some models of TQ arms that have 2 sets of holes where the long bolts go through the TQ arm on the rear. So if they mount all the same, why the 2 sets of holes?? (and you only need 1 set). And why are some specified as "Moser 9" specific? I'm confuzed, hence the screen name - lol..

86TA - I didn't know UMI made a TQ arm for 9" rears - I'll check it out!

xpndbl3 - Your response has me the most intriged...because your running a Moser 9" with a Jegs arm.....why the heck wouldn't the one I had fit??? This doesn't make sense at all. I've looked at the Spohn TQ arm, and personally I feel the price for one is outrageous, so I really wanted to run a Jeg's arm.

I tried mounting the thing with the rear unloded, loaded, partially loaded and it would not fit....so out of frustration, I sent it back. - But that was before I did some grinding on the front of the TQ arm mount to get the UMI arm to fit. Now I wonder if I should try it again....hmmmm.

If Ryan from UMI is around and could respond to this, that would be great.

-Thx for your responses guys - looks like I have a unique problem I need to figure out here..

Mine fit fine, only thing I had to do was while the car was on the lift is put a jack under the front of the torque arm to push the torque arm up so the bracket would be sandwiched against the floor so I could drill the holes and bolt it up. In fact on the torque arm mount I had to add 1 washer to each bolt hole since the bracket was slightly oversized, so no grinding at all. I'd say after assembling the torque arm it took 1 hour on the lift to install.

That's just it...it didn't matter whether I loaded the suspension or not....with either TQ arm, the bolts wouldn't even align with the holes in the rear mount without grinding on the nose of the bracket - if I didn't do that, the bracing on the arm would hit the nose of the bracket preventing the holes from lining up. It's hard to explain, but there's no way it would just bolt in, and I'm not the only one that tried.

I am here

Yes we do have a chassis mounted torque arm now available and I will paste a picture below. Check it out. Now this arm WILL clear your 9" with no issues, if I remember correctly this was a Moser right? Our non-adjustable item is the only torque arm that will not clear on a 9" and unfortanutly you picked that one..lol. If you are interested let me know and I can help on the price some to make up for the grinding on the other on.

Thanks for both the response and the offer Ryan! -Yes, it's a Moser -and yes, I picked the wrong one allright.....leave it to me.

After seeing the pic you posted, I'll take you up on your offer, and it's nice of you to do so! Looks like a well built piece. And better yet, it's off the trans!

-Just PM me the price Ryan, and I'll send you my address and particulars.

PS: Oh, and it's for a T-5....right?
