Re: Anybody ever SWAPPED

Most likely. But the only ones worth the effort would be the 1LEs...but there are better brakes available.

As 5.7 posted, I wouldn't. The stock 3rd gen brakes are terrible. Having upgraded to the 12" C4 brakes I firmly believe they should have been factory stock.

Back to the 1st gen. A set of '69 GTO brakes on the front is a decent upgrade. Bolt on at that (spindles, calipers, brackets, and rotors). There is also several options available for use of newer brakes using the PBR calipers (such as I did to the '92).

Here is a link to check out for anyone with a 1st gen:

Not only brake upgrade info, but a ton of info. Just watch the wheel diameter when choosing a brake upgrade.

RBob.

Re: Anybody ever SWAPPED

First gen had two different types. '67-'68 had 4 piston calipers and '69 had single piston calipers. The 4 piston calipers are worth their weight in gold as they are prone to pit from moisture in the system. I had a '68 Camaro 396 SS/RS w/ disc brakes and they are hard to find replacments for.

I have a 67 RS/SS 396 Camaro that has the factory 4 piston caliper disc brakes. I sent my calipers out to a place and had Stainless Steel sleeves installed installed. That solves the pitting problem. The original 4 piston calipers stop on a dime when the brake system works correctly.

But as 5.7 said why do original 3rd gen brakes. We all know that they suck!
